Hotel Etiquettes for Guests

“Etiquette” is a French word which means a code of social behavior or conduct. Certain ethical and decent behavior are anticipated either in a private or professional environment. They may constitute how you talk to others, the way you behave or communicate, or simply the way you conduct yourself in public.

As a paying guest in a hotel, it is but natural that we expect some returns in the form of services and amenities. And it’s the duty and responsibility of the hotel to provide us what we paid for. But by paying it doesn’t mean that we have the right to behave rudely or blatantly display characters that may be offensive to others. We are all expected to conform to a certain level of politeness and civility while dealing with others.

Here are just a few suggestions for guests, with regards to netiquettes, when staying in a hotel:

Don’t disturb others:

Avoid making loud or excessive noises which may be of a nuisance to others. These may include things like laughing, clapping, shouting, playing loud music, etc. Imagine being at the receiving end and having to listen to all the irritating noises emanating from the next room.

Be civil & maintain decorum:

Never start or engage in a confrontation with other guests or the hotel staff. It may not be necessarily your fault, but the outcome of the altercation will always reflect unfavorably on your character and persona. And certainly avoid using profanities.

Avoid being a drunken nuisance:

Seeing somebody drunk and acting like a fool in public is always a pitiful and deplorable sight. Don’t let that somebody be you. Don’t be a nuisance to others. If you have to drink, drink in the privacy of your room.

Be organized and responsible:

Agreed that the housekeeping staffs are there to clean and organize the rooms. But it is also the responsibility of the guests to maintain a respectable amount of cleanliness and tidiness. For starters, it is always good to avoid littering your room.

Avoid stealing:

Guests tend to steal from hotels. The scientific word for this particular behavior is Kleptomania. They steal not because they want to get rich or the items stolen are unique. Common items known to have been stolen include towels, soaps, shampoos, hangers, spoons, etc. These items are stolen, most of the times, just for the heck of it. But imagine how it would look if you are caught stealing. For many, there’s nothing more hurtful than being called “cheap” in your face.

It pays to be polite & respectful:

Politeness never takes anything of value away from you. It only adds into your personality and character. Be polite and kind to the staff and those around you.

Ultimately, it’s all about give and take. You have certain expectations from the hotel with regards to services and facilities. And the hotel expects decorum and etiquette from your end. And speaking of hotels, Flora Inn is a reputed hotel in Nagpur with exceptional services and amenities. A luxury accommodation, it offers some of the best hotel packages in Nagpur. In spite of it being a luxury hotel, it is also one of the low budget hotels in Nagpur. The comfort and hospitality it provides is an experience not soon to forget.
